Beautiful surroundings, large machines and archeological finds - Klosterlund Museum has it all. Experience the museum's archaeological highlights. Or learn how man over the years has used both hand power and machinery to exploit the peat of the bogs.

From the Stone Age to the Peat Industry

At Klosterlund Museum, you can explore exhibitions showcasing peat-working machinery and original archaeological finds dating all the way back to the hunter-gatherer Stone Age. The museum tells the story of how people have lived in the area for thousands of years, how they survived, and particularly how they utilized the peat from the bogs over time.

You can also visit the atmospheric exhibition Face to Face, which displays the museum's most invaluable archaeological treasures from various time periods. One of the highlights is the Hammerum Girl, a discovery that includes one of the best-preserved textiles from Denmark’s past—a nearly 2,000-year-old garment. The exhibition blends the many finds with personal stories of ancient Mid Jutlanders, while contemporary locals give a face to the narratives.

During summer, volunteers demonstrate how the tough work of peat digging was done back in the day, using both manual and mechanical labor. When you're done exploring the exhibitions, take a walk through the beautiful surroundings near Bølling Lake, enjoy your packed lunch under the trees, or end your visit with a stop at the museum’s small shop.
